Our Story

The Yobe State University Teaching Hospital Damaturu (YSUTH) formerly known as the 200 Bed Ultra Modern Hospital is a 200 bed capacity tertiary health care facility located in Damaturu, North East Nigeria and has the capacity to provide tertiary health care delivery needs of the population of the North Eastern Nigeria and the West African sub region. It has installed state of the arts medical equipment that can serve as the hub of medical practice in the North East to curtail medical tourism abroad and expand the frontiers of medical education, training and research in the sub region. 

The idea for establishing the Hospital was first conceived in 2007 in response to the yearnings and aspirations of good people of Yobe state for qualitative tertiary level health care delivery services as well as specialized advanced medical services that can stand the test of time in a dynamic society. It was therefore built with the vision of providing advanced tertiary health care services, training of medical undergraduates/graduates and health professionals, conducting clinical research on the prevalent diseases in the region.

In line with the above vision the Hospital was linked with the Yobe State University to serve as an outreach center for the training of doctors and allied professionals at the clinical level. Additional necessary infrastructure such as the Radio diagnostic complex, staff quarters etc were   built to meet the versatile services expected of a teaching Hospital and subsequently the Hospital was renamed the
