The Yobe State University Teaching Hospital Damaturu is an over 500 bed capacity Tertiary level health care Institution established by the Yobe State Government with the triple mandate of provision of the tertiary health care services, training of health care professionals including; Doctors (both undergraduate and postgraduate specialists Doctors), Nurses, Pharmacists, Laboratory Scientists, Physiotherapists etc. as well as research on prevailing health challenges. It has state of the art radio-diagnostic equipment e.g. 1.5 Tesla MRI Machine, 164 sliders CT Scanner, digital and conventional X-rays, 3D/4D Ultra-Sound machines, mammography, C-Arm X-rays, Mobile X-rays etc.

Governor's Support

Governor Mai Mala Buni has injected 2.6 Billion Naira into the health care sector of Yobe State. This is in addition to N200 million in 2021 for the state government’s equity programme being implemented under the state Contributory Healthcare Management Agency. The governor said he restored N20 million monthly standing payment for the free drugs programme and bulk purchase of drugs and medical consumables amounting to N40 million for direct distribution to health facilities across the state. He also explained that government had completed the upgrade of four general hospitals to specialist hospitals in Buni Yadi, Gashua, Potiskum and Geidam. He added that seven Primary Healthcare Centres (PHC) in Machina, Nguru, Jaji-Maji, Yunusari, Yusufari, Babban-Gida and Bara had been upgraded to general hospitals in fulfilment of his promise to establish one general hospital in every local government headquarters.
